Commemorating International Women’s Day as an expression of working women’s struggles over the last century, JustJobs Network Associate Ruchika Joshi and Executive Director Sabina Dewan co-authored an article for the Huffington Post on how to resolve India’s unique female labor force challenge.

Despite witnessing rapid economic growth, Indian women are dropping out of the workforce. The authors explain that the current focus must expand beyond skilling female workers to include solving the demand-side obstacles to female employment. From wage subsidies for women workers to offering tax rebates to firms that promote gender diversity, the authors suggest various measures to improve women’s access to jobs and urge the Indian government to put greater energy behind creating real opportunities for women in the labor market.
